How can we do good when reality is so complex and contradictory? In La réponse des Hommes, Tiphaine Raffier examines ‘the archaic and contemporary moral dilemmas and concerns that live within us’. The text places the tradition of Christian Works of Mercy (welcoming the stranger, giving drink to the thirsty, caring for the sick, clothing the naked…) in dialogue with the reality of our daily lives.

A woman working in humanitarian aid is unable to care for her child; a sick young man hopes against hope that the donor who will save his life will die; a seemingly blameless father would rather burn his secret than reveal it…

Through nine stories devoid of any moralistic intentions, Tiphaine Raffier appeals to the viewer’s empathy in order to highlight contradictions and reveal the proximity – and even familiarity – of evil.
